CGIT or Canadian Girls In Training is a non-denominational Christian organization for girls in grades 7-12.  This unique program was initially developed in 1915 and continues to provide girls today with a place to learn and share leadership skills, self care, social responsibility and caring for our world and humanity.

The CGIT Purpose:
As a Canadian Girl in Training,Under the leadership of Jesus
It is my Purpose to Cherish Health, Seek Truth, Know God and Serve Others
And thus with His help, become the girl God would have me be.

CGIT groups exist today in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  And the tens of thousands of alumnae of this program are spread throughout Canada and indeed throughout the world.

  1. I am looking for any information on my Grandfather, dr. John A. Johnston from stayner, who i believe helped to iniate this program. He died in 1918.

    • Thanks for your inquiry Stephanie. I have done a little bit of digging here into the history information that I have. I have not found anything mentioning your Grandfather. Of course that is not to say he was not involved, but unfortunately I don’t have anything to help you in your “investigations”. Good luck and if you find any information that we could include in our archives please pass it along.
If anyone else has information please share it here.

  2. Hi, I am a CGIT graduate many years ago. How can I find a CGIT group who need a leader? I am looking for a position in Edmonton, Alberta.

    Thank you,
    Sandi Illsley
