CGIT or Canadian Girls In Training is a non-denominational Christian organization for girls in grades 7-12.  This unique program was initially developed in 1915 and continues to provide girls today with a place to learn and share leadership skills, self care, social responsibility and caring for our world and humanity.

The CGIT Purpose:
As a Canadian Girl in Training,Under the leadership of Jesus
It is my Purpose to Cherish Health, Seek Truth, Know God and Serve Others
And thus with His help, become the girl God would have me be.

 

CGIT groups exist today in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  And the tens of thousands of alumnae of this program are spread throughout Canada and indeed throughout the world.

  1. I am looking for any information on my Grandfather, dr. John A. Johnston from stayner, who i believe helped to iniate this program. He died in 1918.

  3. I was involved in the CGIT group in Armstrong,BC through Zion United Church back in the 80’s. One of my best memories was attending a camp (1986’ish) on the ocean near White Rock, BC. I can’t recall the name of this beautiful place. Would anyone have record of this camp name?

  4. I belonged to the CGIT, approx. 1948-1953 through the Presbyterian Church, Toronto. Would you have any photos.. I lost mine moving, etc. Would appreciate any info where I could get a copy of these photos. Wonderful times. Thank you so much.

    • I was in CGIT during those same years in a Baptist Church in the east end of Toronto. Went to a camp on Lake Simcoe before Ryde Lake was obtained. One of my best memories is District Candlelighting Services at Christmas and attending weekend rally in Barrie.

  5. I was involved in CGIT in Saint John NB back in the 70’s. I can remember waring my white shirt with such pride. Does anyone know how I could get information.
